So, even before you go out to buy a new table or even make your own table, take a look at this post.
We brought all the information you need to know to have a table at the right height. Check out:
Why is the height of the table important?
The height of the table directly impacts the good posture and health of those who use it, especially in the case of work desks, since they spend most of the day there.
Spine problems, poor posture and even repetitive strain injuries can be caused by a table at the wrong height.
Tables with more decorative than functional purposes, as in the case of side tables and coffee tables, must have an adequate height so as not to disturb the movement and design of the environment, in addition to also impacting comfort.
For dining tables, however, the correct height is synonymous with pleasant and comfortable meals.
But let's better exemplify each of them below:
Table types and the ideal height
Coffee table height
The coffee table completes the decor of the living room like no one else. Super decorative, the coffee table can still be very functional, being used as a support for a snack or tea, in addition to serving as a strategic place to accommodate everyday items, such as remote controls, books, glasses and the cell phone.
But how do you know the right height for the coffee table? In general, it is recommended that the coffee table be below the sofa line.
This means that the coffee table must have a height slightly less than the sofa, varying between 30 to 40 centimeters.
For more modern or living sofas, which are usually lower, the height of the coffee table is around 25 to 30 centimeters.
Another important detail to guarantee the comfort and functionality of the environment: the coffee table must have a length proportional to the environment so that it does not overload the space. It is also important that the coffee table follows the shape of the living room, that is, if the room is square, the ideal is to bet on a square table, the same goes for a rectangular room.
Remember to also guarantee free space for circulation between the table and the sofa and / or the walls. This space usually varies between 60 to 80 centimeters.
Dining table height
Another table that you cannot miss in your home is the dining table. The place where meals and family gatherings take place.
Here, the recommendation is that the height of the dining table should be between 70 to 75 centimeters from the floor to the top.
In general, most tables are manufactured at this time, so there is not much to worry about unless you want to make the table yourself. In this case, take measurements before starting the project.
An important tip: if the table top is very thick, the total height can decrease and thus influence the comfort and ergonomics of those who use it.
It is also important to pay attention to the height of the chairs. There is no point in having a dining table at the right time if the chairs are too high or too low.
Therefore, the ideal height for chairs for dining tables is 47 centimeters. It is worth mentioning that the chairs need to be about 30 cm apart from each other so that everyone can sit and stand without hitting the person next to them.
And one more tip: make sure that the dining table is about 90 cm between the wall and other furniture, such as buffets and sideboards. This ensures the movement of people in a comfortable way.
Office desk height
The height of the office desk is one of the most important, as it is where most of the day is spent.
Office desks found for sale in stores usually have a standard height of 70 centimeters. But if you want to make a custom work table it is important to know the height of the person who will be using it.
People below 1.70m benefit from work desks with a height of 65 centimeters. People over 1,70m, on the other hand, need tables with a height between 70 and 75 centimeters, so that legs and knees are well accommodated.
A good way to adjust the height of the table perfectly is by choosing chairs with height adjustment.
It is worth mentioning that when it comes to ergonomics and comfort in the workplace, the priorities are the table and the chair, a fundamental pair.
Therefore, the tip when choosing the chair and table is to evaluate some important details, such as, for example, the height of the monitor in relation to who is using it.
The computer monitor should be below the horizontal line of the eyes and at a distance of about one arm from the user. The mouse and keyboard should be aligned with the elbow.
The legs need to form a 90º angle to ensure proper posture and avoid spinal problems. Remembering that the feet must reach the ground.
If necessary, it is worth betting on supports for the feet and wrists, in order to avoid overloading the joints.
Side table height
Returning now to the decorative tables, only this time to talk about a darling of any environment: the side table.
This small and practical piece is a helping hand when you need any support or simply to fill an empty space in the living room.
The side table is both practical and decorative. But it is important to know the ideal height of the side table so that it fulfills its functions.
The recommendation is similar to that of the coffee table, that is, it follows the structure of the sofa. Only with one difference: while the coffee table must be lower than the upholstery, the side table must be slightly above the arm of the sofa.
This means that the height of the side table should vary between 50 to 60 centimeters depending on your sofa. Ideally, it should be 10 centimeters above or below the line of the upholstery arm.
But what if the idea is to use the side table separately from the sofa? Nothing changes. The height recommendation remains the same, because the side table will always end up being next to some other furniture, such as an armchair or chair.
Children's table height
The little ones also need comfort and ergonomics when using the table. Generally, children's tables are designed for children to draw, set up blocks, do their homework or even read a book.
Therefore, the table must be at the appropriate height for the child and this height varies according to age.
The height of a children's table for children between 1 and 2 years old must be 40 centimeters. Children aged between 2 and 3 years old need tables with a height of 48 cm.
The biggest ones, aged between 4 and 6 years old, must use tables that are 52 cm high.
For children between 6 and 8 years old, the ideal table height is 60 centimeters. Above that age, tables can already have the standard height of an adult and the height is now regulated by the chair.
For study tables, it is also important to observe the depth and length of the table, so that the child can accommodate notebooks, pencils, computers and whatever else is necessary to carry out the activities.
On average, this depth should be around 60 centimeters and the minimum length should be 70 centimeters. Remembering that the wider the table, the more comfortable it will be for the child.
Also pay attention to the height of the chair. It must be smaller than the table and accommodate the child in comfort and ergonomics.
The child's feet should touch the floor and the knees should not be pressed under the worktop. The child's hands should access the table in the same line as the elbows, neither below nor above, thus avoiding overloading the neck and spine.
For children using a computer, it is worth remembering that the monitor should be slightly away from the child's face (hence the importance of adequate depth). The mouse and keyboard must be aligned with the elbow.
To accompany the child's growth, the most recommended is a height-adjustable chair, so you don't need to buy a new chair every year.
