How to make brick barbecue
Although it looks like a complicated job, building a brick barbecue is simple. However, some details are extremely important for the good functionality of the barbecue, take note:
- Before buying the bricks, make sure that they are of the refractory model, a type of brick that absorbs less heat;
- The mortar used needs to be special, suitable for ovens;
- Think about where the brick barbecue will be built, as it cannot be transported;
- See if there is space – and height – for the construction of the chimney in the chosen location;
- Another important tip when making your brick barbecue is to build it in a location that is away from strong wind currents and – preferably – in open spaces.
For a simple brick barbecue with oven, the ideal measures are:
- 82cm wide;
- 4m high (including the chimney);
- 70cm deep;
- 49cm high for the refractory box;
- 56cm high for the ash collection drawer;
- 98cm high from the base of the mouth (internal part of the grill).
Place and style of the chosen barbecue, it's time to get your hands dirty. Here are some step by step to build your own brick barbecue:

Pre-molded brick barbecue
In addition to the traditional brick barbecue, the one we mentioned above, there is also the option of precast brick barbecues. Pre-molded barbecues are indicated for those who have no knowledge in construction and want to get a quicker result or, for those who do not even want to face the task of building a masonry barbecue from scratch.
The pieces of the pre-molded brick barbecues are sold in parts that fit together easily. The main advantage of the precast barbecue is that it can be disassembled and rebuilt elsewhere in the house, if necessary.
But, according to barbecue experts, conventional brick grills are the best on the market, as they use charcoal and smoke in a specific way giving a special flavor to the meat.
Prices
The values of brick grills can vary widely, depending on the size, shape and style. In general, the traditional brick barbecue can cost between R $ 500 and R $ 1,500, if it has a wood stove and oven. Some larger grills can reach up to R $ 3 thousand.
