How to care for the white orchid

The white orchid has the same needs and care as any other. Write down the care you need to take to keep your orchid always beautiful.

Watering

Watering is very important for orchids. Because it is a plant with a tropical climate, it enjoys humid and warm environments, but that does not mean soaked. On the contrary, the plant may suffer from excessive watering.

Therefore, the tip is always to examine the soil before watering. If you notice a dry substrate, offer water, but if it is still wet, wait another day or two.

Light

As important as water is light. The ideal brightness is all that the orchid needs to develop properly.

Most species of orchids prefer environments with indirect light, that is, no sun hitting the leaves and flowers directly.

A good place for them is near the window or on a well-lit balcony, for example.

Also be careful with places with a lot of ventilation, as this factor can end up triggering the appearance of fungi in the orchid.

Fertilizing

The orchid also needs frequent but gentle fertilization and preferably well diluted.

This means enriching the soil with fertilizer type NPK 10-10-10 or NPK 20-20-20 every 15 days, but be careful with the dosage. It is recommended to use half the amount indicated on the fertilizer packaging.

You can even opt for organic fertilizers, such as humus, castor bean pie or bone meal.

Substrate

The ideal substrate for the orchid is one made from coconut fiber. This type of substrate allows the plant’s roots to « breathe ».

You can even use bark and pieces of charcoal to plant or replant.

The roots should not be completely covered, keep the upper part visible, above the substrate.

When you notice that the substrate is thin and low in volume, transplant the orchid to a larger pot or make a new soil preparation for the plant.

Pruning

Pruning the orchid should be done after flowering, usually in early autumn.

Cut the dried flowers and the flower stem, keeping just a few inches.
